I have a first-generation Kindle and needed to update the time. Since it is not exactly intuitive, I thought I should share my workaround in case someone has the same problem. Make sure that Wireless is turned on and then from the Home page, go to Menu > Settings > Menu > Restart. It should take a few minutes, but that should do it...
